Our Story

Greenfield’s Farmers & Butchers is a renowned Farm Shop and Butchery located at Norton Barn Farm in Twycross, known for rearing natural, fresh lamb for over 50 years.

1940s - 1962

The Greenfield family hails from Lincolnshire and moved to Temple Hall Farm in Wellsborough in the late 1940s. Peter Greenfield, alongside Sally, began the tenancy of Norton Barn Farm in September 1962. With limited funds but immense dedication and hard work, they transformed the farm into a local showpiece, winning numerous accolades for ‘best-kept farm’ and various crop and grass trophies.

1996

In 1996, Martin took over the farm's tenancy from his father after studying at Brooksby College and gaining extensive experience working and contracting on numerous local farms. He also set up a contracted sheep shearing business to generate extra income.

2008 - 2010

In 2008, Martin focused on maximising farm production by introducing herbal lays across the land and increasing the sheep population to over 1,000. The farm began selling lamb at Farmers’ Markets in the late 1990s, which led to the creation of a cutting room and cold store in a traditional building in 2010.

2014

In 2014, Martin was honoured by being nominated for the prestigious 'Sheep Farmer of the Year' at the Farmers Weekly Awards. Although he didn't win, the recognition was significant.

2014 - Present

Martin’s son, Ben, after finishing school and working on a local arable farm, took a five-month trip to New Zealand. Upon his return, he took charge of the butchery, showcasing his exceptional skills.

Martin’s wife, Mary, who previously ran her own hairdressing business in Market Bosworth and later helped with the farm’s livestock and deliveries, now assists with daily farm operations.

Lastly, daughter Rebecca, trained as a Professional Dancer in Manchester and performed as a Showgirl on various stages, including the Moulin Rouge. She now teaches dance and runs a glamping enterprise on the farm, known as ‘Naomi’s Shepherds Huts’.
